Birthday Cake for Hubby

My hubby enjoys golf, but doesn't get the chance to play it as often as he would like, so I thought for his birthday, I would make him a "golf themed" cake. Since I'm still rather new at all this, I tried something that was simple and I must admit that I'm very happy with the way it turned out. Hubby like it and it was delicious - what more can you ask for? I used my cricut E to cut out the little golfer dude. Since they are small cuts, I only had to move one roller out of the way, but a cricut cake is definately on top of my wish list! I used fondant to cover the cake and sugarpaste for all the cuts. Another thing on my wish list is a silicone bead mold, because making all those little golf balls, lost it's appeal after the 15th one :).

My Blue Cake!

Sometimes, when you run out of ideas, you ask someone else to help you out. This was just the case and my son very graciously helped me out with this cake for my class. He wanted a chocolate cake, with chocolate fudge filling and then blue fondant to go with my white shimmering bow. It is bright but it is also very yummy!

Calla Lily Cake

I had to put my calla lilies to good use, so I used them to decorate this birthday cake. I like how it turned out, but I do have to improve on my lilies. Although my favourite colours are pink and red, I have to admit that I also like yellow - it is such a happy colour - the colour of sunshine!

Draped Fondant Cake

I'm so excited about this cake. I really enjoy working with fondant and sugarpaste. For me it is so much easier to make flowers with sugarpaste than it is with buttercream icing or even royal icing. We decorated this cake in class, and for my very first fondant cake, I think it came out very pretty. The rope needs some adjusting. I will have to practice more on that. I just love how the flower came out and I think that the drape gives it a very elegant look. What do you think?

Rose Bouquet Cake

Well, as much fun as I'm having with cake decorating, the Wilton rose is just something that I can't do very well. I'm not sure if it is my icing consistency or me, but something is not quite right and I can't quite figure out what it is. They look like roses, just not like very nice roses. This is one of those times where you can really appreciate your friends. I had few come over for coffee and they all thought the cake looked wonderful, so by the end of our coffee session I was able to look at the cake (or what was left of it) and see that the roses, although not perfect, didn't look as bad as I originally thought. I guess I'm my worst critique, but then aren't we all?
